Herring Gull - Zilvermeeuw - Larus argentatus

Baltic Herring Gulls differ from ad Yellow-legged Gulls (Larus michahellis) by their build, shape of head and bill, paler shade of grey of the upperparts, usually pale-yellow rather than bright yellow legs, colour of the orbital ring (orange to coral red in BHG, coral red in YLG) and always by more white on the outer primaries (the subterminal black band on P10 often is incomplete or, as in the bird, absent altogether: the white of the tip merges with the mirror). Adult Zilvermeeuw (Larus a argentatus). Baltische Zilvermeeuwen verschillen van adulte Geelpootmeeuwen (Larus michahellis) door bouw, kop- en snavelvorm, lichtere grijstint van de bovendelen, meestal vaalgele in plaats van heldergele poten, kleur van de oogring (oranje tot rood in Baltische Zilvermeeuw, rood in Geelpootmeeuw) en altijd door meer wit op de buitenste handpennen (de subterminale zwarte band op P10 is vaak onderbroken of, zoals bij deze vogel, ontbreekt geheel: het wit van de top vloeit over in de mirror).
