Typical juvenile michahellis, with a reddish hue in the brown upperparts; rather heavy, blunt bill; dark eye mask; barred inner and dark-centered outer greater coverts, creating the impression of a dark "triangle" on outer greater coverts; whitish throat and belly, separated by breast band; slightly notched tertial fringes not reaching down to the base of the feather; white uppertail coverts, constrasting with narrow, tapering tail bar; blackish primaries extending well behind the tail and P1-P7 with paler inner web only, creating an inconspicuous window. Typische juveniele michahellis, met roodachtige tint in bruine bovendelen; nogal zware, stompe snavel; donker oogmasker; gekartelde binnenste grote dekveren maar buitenste met donker centrum, waardoor een donkere "driehoek" ontstaat op de buitenste grote dekveren; wittige keel en buik, gescheiden door borstband; licht gekartelde tertials met lichte randen die niet doorlopen tot de basis van de veer; witte bovenstaartdekveren die contrasteren met smalle, taps aflopende staartband; bijna zwarte handpennen die ver voorbij de staart steken en P1-P7 met alleen lichtere binnenvlag, waardoor een onopvallend venster ontstaat.
