Lesser Black-backed Gull - Kleine Mantelmeeuw - Larus fuscus

A rather slow moulting 2cy Lesser Black-backed Gull s.l.: P1-3 fully grown, P4-5 growing, P6 missing and P7-10 still juvenile. Judging from the lack of active moult in the wing coverts, the rectrices and secondaries probably were acquired on the wintering grounds. Note how the light changes the tone of the grey feathers: very pale in the sun (1) but noticably darker when there is no direct sun light (2). Een nogal traag ruiende Kleine Mantelmeeuw s.l.: P1-3 volgroeid, P4-5 groeiend, P6 ontbrekend en P7-10 oud. Op basis van het ontbreken van actieve rui in de vleugeldekveren mag waarschijnlijk aangenomen worden dat de staart- en armpennen op de wintergronden verkregen zijn. Let op hoe het licht de grijstint van de veren beïnvloed: zeer licht in de zon (1) maar behoorlijk donkerder als er geen direct zonlicht is (2).
