Hoekenes, Amsterdam. An unmistakable 2cy Baltic Gull L f fuscus. The tail, secondaries and all primaries are fully grown and already slightly to moderately worn, so acquired in early spring. While most western birds by mid-August are well underway with their first complete moult and show mostly fresh scapulars and wing coverts, in this bird all but a few are moderately to heavily worn. Compare in 4 with a 2cy graellsii (or graellsii-like intermedius; top) and 2cy intermedius, which are in active moult (the outer primaries still are juvenile). Many of the more advanced 2cy fuscus start a new moult wave in their first summer, but except for a few missing coverts, this individual shows no signs of active moult yet. Een onmiskenbare 2kj Baltische Mantelmeeuw L f fuscus. De staart, arm- en handpennen zijn volgroeid en al licht tot matig gesleten en dus verkregen in het vroege voorjaar. Terwijl westelijke vogels half augustus flink onderweg zijn met hun eerste complete rui en vele verse schouder- en dekveren hebben, zijn deze in dit individu op een paar na matig tot sterk gesleten. Vergelijk in 4 met een een 2kj graellsii (of graellsii-achtige intermedius; boven) en een 2kj intermedius, die beide in actieve rui zijn (de buitenste handpennen zijn nog juveniel). Vele van de sneller ruiende fuscus beginnen in hun eerste zomer met een nieuwe ruigolf, maar behalve een paar ontbrekende dekveren vertoont deze vogel nog geen actieve rui.
