Caspian Gull - Pontische Meeuw - Larus cachinnans

In 1 the coverts look mainly greyish, suggesting 3cy, but note the dark brown greater coverts in 2 and juvenile tail in 3. This might very well be the ringed Ukrainian bird observed in Amsterdam-West the previous December. That bird was also ringed on the right tarsus, had a rather shabby-looking plumage and a typical shape of head and bill (compare 2 on this page to 6 on the other). Verre 2kj Pontische Meeuw. In 1 lijken de dekveren voornamelijk grijs, waardoor verwarring met een 3kj mogelijk is. In 2 zijn de grote dekveren donkerbruin en in 3 de staart juveniel. Dit zou heel goed de geringde Oekraïense vogel kunnen zijn die in december daarvoor in Amsterdam-West. Die vogel was ook geringd aan de rechter tarsus, had een nogal slordig verenkleed en een typische kop- en snavelvorm (vergelijk 2 op deze pagina met 6 op de andere).

In 6, both are visible: the bird with the double wingbar sleeping at the front left and the other one standing at the right! Nog twee Pontische Meeuwen die tegelijkertijd op de dam aanwezig waren. In 6 zijn beide zichtbaar: de vogel met de dubbele velugelstreep slapend linksvoor en de andere rechts staand!
