3cy(/4cy) Caspian Gulls



Caspian Gull - Larus cachinnans

1: © Ruud Altenburg, 21-05-03. Caspian Gulls can be tricky to age when the tail and an open wing cannot be judge (as in most of these pictures). Given the large black marking on the bill this probably is a 3cy but based on just this picture it's difficult to exclude the possibility of this individual being a 4cy.

8: © Ruud Altenburg, 30-05-03. The black marking on the bill and on the tail suggest that this is a 3cy, probably a female. The rather large mirror on P10, however, could be an indication that it actually is a 4cy.
